Color

Close-up nature photograph of a purple petunia.

Close-up nature photography is such a huge joy and source of inspiration.

As much as I love shooting nature in its true colors (or slightly edited colors), the idea of carrying colored papers to change the blurred-out backgrounds has started to gain appeal. Changing colors is possible in Photoshop and other similar programs, but keeping edits minimal is a goal of mine.

Paper is easy to transport, but perhaps bits of fabric from thrift stores would work better…

Have you used papers or flags in your nature photography when it comes to taking the studio outdoors?  Do you prefer controlling the color of the background, and if so, do you prefer to make changes during the shoot or in post?
