Self-esteem can be too easy to struggle with. We may praise others generously, but when our attention comes back to ourselves, we count ourselves short. We don’t easily accept praise, from others or ourselves.
If we achieve something amazing, it was just luck. If someone tries to become our friend, we ask ourselves why. When offered praise, we wave it off at the person being too kind. When wondering if those around us enjoy our company, we ask ourselves,”Why would they?” If we’re offered a new position at work, surely it’s because we’re screwing up our current job. We couldn’t possibly be getting promoted because our bosses believe in us and our work, could we?
It’s too easy to fall into the trap of labeling ourselves as ‘nobodies’, and seeing ourselves as less than everyone else.
As someone I met at work recently advised: When someone tells you you’re awesome, say,”Yes, I am.”
Let’s catch ourselves when we’re putting ourselves down, and counter it with something positive that we know to be true. Let’s remember that we have something to offer, that we have strengths, and that, yeah, we are pretty awesome.
Let’s not wave people off. Let’s start seeing and recognizing our own worth. You’re awesome!
Much Peace and Keep Roamin’
