Value the Experience

When we’re up in the mountains, exploring trails, or photographing friends, it’s a little too easy to get so wrapped up in our cameras that we miss out on the actual experience.

Just like in life as a whole, the experience is more important than the tangible, like a photo print or money from a client.

Who cares if our photographs represent where we’ve been when we were too busy messing around with our cameras to actually enjoy the experience and have something to remember?

Whether we’re out on a hike and brought our gear along, or we’re out specifically for a client, let’s remember to slow down, and actually ENJOY the experience.

Let’s make beautiful memories, not just beautiful images~

Life Happens When We Get Out of Bed

Life Happens

Sometimes getting out of bed is near impossible.

No matter how much we sleep, we’re always tired.  Too tired to get up and start the day.

Or maybe we stay in bed for hours on end to avoid something.  Life is easier when you spend it in bed staring at the wall.

Let’s remember that life happens when we get out of bed and start the day.  Things aren’t going to get better if we do nothing.  The day may hold difficulties, but it can only get better.

Let’s remember that there are so many positive experiences in our day to enjoy, and we have to get out of bed to live them.

Be Grateful for Every Moment

be grateful for every moment

A flower doesn’t stay in bloom forever.

Let’s be grateful for every moment we have, and everything we experience and enjoy in the present.  We never know what will be in the future, but we can open our eyes and hearts to understand what is right now.

Let’s be in the moment, hold gratitude in our hearts, and enjoy the beauty in the world.

Don’t Just Read About It, Live It

old book too much research learn experience photography

As a lover of learning, I’ve read a lot of books.  Most of which are books on how to do photography, blog, sculpt, draw, write, speak a foreign language, paint, etc. etc. etc.

This year something finally dawned on me, and it’s that there’s a time to put the books down.  Again…

Put the books down.

There’s nothing wrong with doing your research and reading how to do something before you actually do it.  You can learn great techniques, proper tools, and basic information that can take your project a long way.

But learning how to do something isn’t just reading all you can about it.

You learn by doing.

You can’t learn to paint by reading all about painting techniques, you have to pick up the brush.  And you can’t learn to speak French by only reading grammar books, you have to speak it.

This is something I’ve been guilty of for a long time.  I read all the books I can, take stacks of notes, and end up never really experiencing much of what I’m so interested in learning to do.

I’m working to find balance, and I invite you to do the same!

Let’s not just read about screenwriting, let’s get our screenplays written.  Let’s not just read about sculpting, let’s play with the clay.

Let’s not just read about something, but live it!
