Can we all take a moment to appreciate the glory and beauty that is studio photography.  That white umbrella just may be one of my best tools in the studio for creating dark, glowing, stunning photographs!

With an alternative flair, hopefully!

What’s your favorite tool in the studio?

Tiny Blue

These small blue flowers have been happily growing in the shade of a garden of sunflowers, and it’s been so wonderful to have such vivid colors around the house!

Close-up nature photography has fallen out of favor since moving, and it’s caused some home-sickness for the vividness and quietness of our old place in Pennsylvania.  It was also a lot less windy, which is definitely beneficial for such close-ups!

Despite the wind and liveliness of Colorado, I’m hoping to get out and spend more time on the beauty that is nature up close!

What loves of yours have fallen by the wayside?  Whatever it is, let’s take baby steps to get back on track, and let’s start today.

Somber

From a photography standpoint, I much prefer working with longer hair like this, as there’s more to play with to create different looks and characters.

Some practice outside using a simple backdrop rig and sunlight diffused by the side of the house.  The backdrop ended up being too close, as the blanket texture and folds showed up and needed to be edited out.  The house also threw in an unintended color cast which needed adjustment.

So much to consider, even when working in an outside ‘studio’!  It’s good to pay attention while shooting, so problems like these can be edited in real time instead of later on the computer.

Let’s keep practicing!
