Red Flowers.

First effort in styling a wig for a photoshoot, and it came out alright despite almost destroying my favorite hair!

Hairstyling is worth the time and work, so here’s hoping to have some different styles for future shoots!

What’s your favorite style?

Delicate Lace | Gothic Lolita Portrait

This moody yet soft portrait was photographed while shooting the Pirate Queen theme.

When all dressed up in gothic fashion, with props and clothing all over the studio, remember to vary up your shots to get different looks in the same shoot!

By simply stepping closer to the camera, we can get a completely different portrait, even with the exact same styling!

Let’s keep playing, having fun, and stepping in front of the camera to be our own models~

Pirate Queen | Fantasy Portrait

This fantasy shoot was inspired by a pirate theme as well as Gothic Lolita and Victorian fashion, and was great fun to shoot with a new 50mm lens!

As we head into the new year, whether in the realms of photography or our personal lives, let’s continue to embody strength and flexibility, and push ourselves.

Let’s explore, grow, and be fierce like a pirate queen!

Delicate Flower | Gothic Wallflower

Another portrait from the Victorian and Gothic inspired shoot ‘Gothic Wallflower’.

Though photographed while still testing the lighting setup in the studio, with a bare flashgun and rather strong light, this mysterious shot became a favorite!

Conditions don’t have to be ‘perfect’ to get a photograph that we love.  We don’t have to have the best camera, costume, or lighting.  As long as we capture something we love, that’s what’s important.

Of course even practice that bears no final image is still worth it!

Gothic Wallflower | Moody Portrait

Once again I’ve been reminded of the importance of making the most of and working with what we already have.

No new tool is going to solve our problems, and a bigger studio isn’t going to make a masterpiece, though it can certainly make the attempt easier!

This portrait was photographed in the new ‘studio’, the thin strip of area in the bedroom that isn’t occupied by a bed and a dresser.

Although the shoot was spent carefully trying not to trip over tripods, lights, or furniture, this came into being.  And although I don’t have any ‘proper’ gels, or even the tissue paper I’d saved for the occasion, a red curtain wrapped around the flashgun worked wonders.

When we’re packed into a space that’s a bit too small to our liking, we have to work with what we have.  We can only make so much room, so it’s often better to be creative than go shopping and bring more stuff home.

Here’s to being creative with our current options, and creating art we love in the space and with the tools we have!

This photoshoot came out great, despite not using a new lighting setup as intended.

The original Final of this photograph was quite desaturated, but I changed my mind and went back to an earlier, more colorful version.  Or rather, I did my best to recreate it.

A great reminder of not only saving our work in stages, but to save these files as LAYERS!

Much Peace and Keep Roamin’
