Magical Mountain Sunset | Peace Through Detachment

This mountain belongs to the Collegiate Peaks and was photographed near sunset during a spontaneous road trip.

While working to meet our goals and live the best life we can, we come across new people, places, and things.  We can find insecurities stirring up as well.

We fear things will change.

We fear losing the people we love, having to leave the places where we’re comfortable, and losing the things we’ve finally acquired.

Detachment is needed.

It is difficult, especially once fear has already set in.  But when we lovingly separate ourselves from what we’re so afraid to lose, when we let it go and trust things will be the way they’re meant to be, it gets easier.

We feel lighter.  We feel free.

Like most things, it gets easier with practice.  Let’s breathe, keep our eyes on our dreams, but lovingly let go and trust that we will be alright whatever comes.

Let’s keep chasing the sunset, without getting too caught up in the timing.  Let’s keep climbing mountains, without insisting we make it to the top.  Let’s keep moving forward, without clinging to the ‘perfect’ destination.

Tranquil | Mountain Stream

This small stream waterfall was photographed on a hike last summer, during a trek that led to my first (albeit small) summit.

A great reminder to take the time for both the small and larger things in life that make us happy and bring us back to ourselves.

We are our own greatest investment, and when we are at our best, we’re able to be our best for others.

Whether it’s climbing a mountain with a camera in tow, or snuggling on the couch with a good book, let’s make the time for the things that bring us back to tranquility and build us up.

Stay Bright | Summer Leaves

It’s not always easy to look on the bright side of things, but happiness isn’t always easy.

And yes, a positive outlook has a whole lot to do with how happy we feel.

Life is so much brighter when we choose to see the beauty, positivity, and possibilities around us.  We can’t always control our life circumstances, but we can always choose how we see and react to them.

When sadness, anxiety, or anger start to flair up, it’s helpful to take a step back, take a breath, and look for the positive.

Let’s practice seeing and looking for the beauty in the world, and spend more time on the bright side.

We’ll feel much better for it.

Follow Your Happiness

It’s so important to make time to follow our happiness, passions, and values.

When we don’t, we’ll sooner or later find that we’ve fallen off our path and become lost.  We’re irritated, depressed, and feel trapped in a life we didn’t mean to create and don’t want to continue.

Happiness is a journey, and it’s all too easy and inevitable to lose our trail, but when we’re not sure where we are or where we’re headed, let’s remember what is truly important to us, and plow ahead in that direction.

The cycle of work, eat, sleep, day-in and day-out is easy to fall into, but it’s so important that we take the time, even a few minutes, to enjoy and feed our passions, and stick to our values.

Easier said than done, but we owe ourselves to do our best.

No matter how many shifts we pick up, how much family we have to care for, how tired we get, let’s remember to always make time for our joys and values.

We’ll feel renewed, and know we’re heading in the right direction.

Much Peace and Keep Roamin’

Bloom | Take The Leap

“Leap and the net will appear.” -John Burroughs

We may desperately want change, but still cling to what we’ve known because it’s safe and predictable.

We tell ourselves want a new job, but then convince ourselves we can’t change careers now.  The bills will never get paid, the job market is too bad, and that we should just stick it out.

Things in life are always changing, but to make the changes we crave and need, we have to be willing to let go and take the leap.

Things will work out one way or another.  Be smart, and be prepared, but let’s not be too afraid to take the leap.

Let’s be courageous.  Our net will appear.

Start Now | Into the Storm

Life it too short to wait for things to be ‘perfect’ before starting something.

Let’s not wait for a steady job that’ll give us vacation time to take a vacation.  Let’s use that one day off this week to go somewhere, whether just in town or some hours’ drive away.

Let’s not wait to have the highest quality supplies to start creating, but start working with what we have now.

Let’s not wait for certain circumstances to start living the life we want.  The life we dream of isn’t going to just happen, it’s something we have to work toward little by little, day by day.

So let’s stop waiting for the life we want, and start building it right now.

What do you want to do?  What do you dream of?  What small step can you make today to start living it?

Whatever it is, let’s start moving forward and making it happen!

Move Toward Passion

Going through the motions is no way to live our lives.

Life and emotions are always in flux, but the pattern of ‘work, eat, sleep’ is a guaranteed way to lower our mood and ensure we feel stuck.

It’s so incredibly important that we live our values, enjoy a passion, and make progress with our goals on a daily basis.  Even a few stolen moments and a small step forward can help keep us from feeling stuck and improve our mood.

If we’re feeling trapped and suffocated, let’s not dig ourselves deeper by mindlessly watching tv, surfing the web, drinking alcohol, or the like.  Instead, let’s see this as a wake-up call and turn to a passion or a hobby, and ask ourselves what we can do right now to align ourselves closer to our values.

Yes, we have to work, eat, and sleep, but that doesn’t mean we have to just go through the motions.
