Forest Sky

Road trips are food for the soul, so let’s get out when we can!

Patch of Light | Devil’s Playground Trail

Walking along this forested trail on Pikes Peak definitely brought back memories of the forests in Pennsylvania.

This gorgeous patch of light was captured just off the Devil’s Playground trail, a hiking path up the western side of the mountain.

This trail definitely warrants a return visit, perhaps with the goal of getting to the summit, or at least the tree-line!

Let’s keep exploring.

Spring Bluff

Warm Hilltop

Despite temperatures far below freezing, a view like this with vivid blue and warm oranges and greens sure gives you the feeling of those warmer days to come!

There are many photographs like this one that are meant to be seen at a larger size, even if only slightly.  Most of the galleries here on Roman Leaf have just been redone, so you can head over, click on an image, and it’ll pop up in its intended size!

If you have any suggestions on how to make Roman Leaf better, improve photography, or you have some subjects/places you’d like to suggest, I’m all ears!  A whole new year is ahead of us, so let’s get started exploring!

Christmas Tree

Trail Christmas Tree

Somehow, this little pine tree growing in the middle of a trail found itself adorned with a few adorable ornaments…

It seems some of the many many many hikers, runners, bikers, etc that frequent the park have some holiday spirit!

Photography of nature affected by wildfire. Blog post on compassion.

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”  – Buddha

Kindness, compassion, and love are always an option.  And definitely one far better than clinging to anger and judgements.  Let’s always do our best to walk through this world with compassion, and shower each other with kindness at every opportunity.

A smile to a stranger can make such a difference; as can a word of kindness.  Love and kindness serves everyone; hatred serves no one.

Let’s keep compassion in our hearts, and let go of anger.  Let’s keep moving forward, and do our best to be better every day.

Pine Needle Dewdrop

Pinetree Dew

Dewdrops and raindrops are so beautiful and wonderful to photograph.  Yet another reason to head outside on those less sunny mornings, with or without a camera.

With more rain these days and snow coming soon, it’s probably time to repair or replace those shoes of ours that have developed holes, rips, and cracks from all our adventures.

Needles and Moss

Pine Needles and Moss

Given how dry Colorado tends to be, I was quite surprised to find such vivid green moss.  Close-up views of moss are common around here on Roman Leaf, though pine needles are a first.  They definitely have their own unique beauty, and there’s plenty of dropped needles around here to admire and photograph as the season changes.

Close-up photography is a tremendous joy, and hopefully some even closer views will be possible soon.  Macro lenses are expensive, though it may be possible to get more detailed shots by shooting through a magnifying glass.  Definitely cheaper, and worth some experimentation!
