Pink Buds | End of a Season

The end of the warmer seasons is here, and as the colder weather blows in, it’s helpful to think back on our goals and priorities.

Why wait until New Year to think about how we’re doing and where we’re going?

Life has a way of flying by, so let’s take more opportunities throughout the year to do some serious contemplation on our lives, what they are, and what we want them to be.

Big goals are best broken down into smaller, more manageable goals, so why not consider checking in with our biggest dreams four times a year?

However we go about setting and monitoring our goals, let’s be sure to take the time to reflect on our lives.

Bloom | Take The Leap

“Leap and the net will appear.” -John Burroughs

We may desperately want change, but still cling to what we’ve known because it’s safe and predictable.

We tell ourselves want a new job, but then convince ourselves we can’t change careers now.  The bills will never get paid, the job market is too bad, and that we should just stick it out.

Things in life are always changing, but to make the changes we crave and need, we have to be willing to let go and take the leap.

Things will work out one way or another.  Be smart, and be prepared, but let’s not be too afraid to take the leap.

Let’s be courageous.  Our net will appear.

Pink Spring Flower

It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve photographed flowers…

Colorado has really come alive this Spring as flowers and blossoms have been bloomed all over, which is definitely a wonderful surprise!

Let’s keep our eyes open to the colors around us and enjoy the blooming of Spring.

New Year | New Routine

Backlit Petals

I hope everyone is not only well, but excited about the new year!  We have a lot to look forward to, and hopefully we have some goals to work towards, as well!

Whether we’re putting things in motion to start a new job or new career, picking up a new interest, or dedicating more time to our passions, let’s give it all we’ve got; keep a smile on our faces, and gratitude in our hearts~

I want to thank you guys again for helping make this past year extra special!  In the coming year, I hope to improve my photography, experiment and practice new things, and continue to share with you all!

As we move forward into the new year, Roman Leaf will be updating three days a week, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  The schedule may continue to change and evolve as time goes on and needs/goals change, but this new routine feels like a good fit.  With fewer updates, I hope to bring you all better photos, though of course I’m still up for sharing my mistakes!

These days will be the primary posts, so any posts with photography centered around DIY/handmade, minimalism, food, decor, etc. will be extra posts that week.  When things start to fall into place, non-post days will probably be when other sites like DeviantArt and Tumblr are updated.  Probably..

Thank you guys again.  I wish you all the best, and look forward to exploring the new year with you!

DIY Himalayan Salt Candleholder

DIY Himalayan salt candle using a votive holder, glass teacup, and course Himalayan salt

Candles have become quite a big thing in my life since discovering DIY oil candles and Himalayan salt candleholders, so why not combine the two?

I used a tealight candleholder and glass teacup, but options are endless.  You can use shot glasses, jars, or any variety of glasses, so long as they’re of two different sizes.

Simply make a DIY oil candle to start.  Then take your candle and set it in the center of your bigger, base glass.  Cover your candle and carefully fill your base with Himalayan salt, which you can find at a grocery/natural goods store.  Fill up to the candle’s rim, and you’re done!

It may not boast the same air-purifying power as store-bought salt candleholders or lamps, but they’re definitely beautiful!

Muted Dewdrops

Shot on a beautifully foggy morning hike.

The soft and almost pearlescent colors, as well as the lens blur, make for a dreamlike quality.

Overcast days are definitely wonderful for hikes and photography~

Fall Reds and Pinks

Fall Reds and Pinks

Today was beautifully cool and overcast.  Great weather for a morning hike!  Autumn is definitely gracing us with its presence, turning leaves shades of red and orange, and dusting the ground with vibrant color.

The small leaves of these plants are gorgeous reds and pinks, adding a pop of color among the surrounding scrub oak and pine trees.

Weather will continue to cool off, colors will continue to change, and soon the landscape will be blanketed with snow!

Let’s keep our eyes open and enjoy the gorgeous colors of the season!
