Misty Autumn Forest | Resistance

Resistance can have a big impact on our lives.

It keeps us in a rut, automatically following the same well-worn paths we’ve been walking for so long.

When ever we want to change for the better (which is hopefully often!), resistance is there to meet us.

Do we let it stop us?

Hopefully…no.

Realistically…it’s at least going to put up a fight.  And that’s our cue to acknowledge our resistance to change, and push forward anyway.

The first hurdles are always the hardest.  We need to jump over them anyway.  We’ll slip, we’ll fall back into our old routine, but each time we need to get back up and move forward.

Habits take time to dismantle and recreate, but it can be done!

How do you want to change yourself for the better?  What goals are you working on, and what new habits are you trying to instill?  How do you overcome resistance?

Let’s keep our goals and values in mind, and keep moving forward!

Stay Bright | Summer Leaves

It’s not always easy to look on the bright side of things, but happiness isn’t always easy.

And yes, a positive outlook has a whole lot to do with how happy we feel.

Life is so much brighter when we choose to see the beauty, positivity, and possibilities around us.  We can’t always control our life circumstances, but we can always choose how we see and react to them.

When sadness, anxiety, or anger start to flair up, it’s helpful to take a step back, take a breath, and look for the positive.

Let’s practice seeing and looking for the beauty in the world, and spend more time on the bright side.

We’ll feel much better for it.

Bloom | Take The Leap

“Leap and the net will appear.” -John Burroughs

We may desperately want change, but still cling to what we’ve known because it’s safe and predictable.

We tell ourselves want a new job, but then convince ourselves we can’t change careers now.  The bills will never get paid, the job market is too bad, and that we should just stick it out.

Things in life are always changing, but to make the changes we crave and need, we have to be willing to let go and take the leap.

Things will work out one way or another.  Be smart, and be prepared, but let’s not be too afraid to take the leap.

Let’s be courageous.  Our net will appear.

Waiting

Let’s not wait to start down the path we want to be on.  The ‘perfect’ time is never in the future, it’s now.

Let’s educate ourselves and think things through, but let’s not get held back by planning and never make the leap.

Let’s be bold, be confident, and take the leap.  Success is found through failure, and we can’t fail if we haven’t started.

Golden Path | Stand Tall

It’s important to be aware of not only how we treat others, but how we treat ourselves.

Often we’ll notice that we treat and view others as more important, competent, skilled, etc, than ourselves.  This can become immensely obvious when we find ourselves rejecting praise, be it from friends, coworkers, or bosses.

It’s so important that we don’t sell ourselves short.  If we don’t believe in ourselves, others will start to wonder why they should believe in us.

Let’s treat ourselves with kindness, put effort into believing in ourselves, hold our heads high, and walk tall.

Move Toward Passion

Going through the motions is no way to live our lives.

Life and emotions are always in flux, but the pattern of ‘work, eat, sleep’ is a guaranteed way to lower our mood and ensure we feel stuck.

It’s so incredibly important that we live our values, enjoy a passion, and make progress with our goals on a daily basis.  Even a few stolen moments and a small step forward can help keep us from feeling stuck and improve our mood.

If we’re feeling trapped and suffocated, let’s not dig ourselves deeper by mindlessly watching tv, surfing the web, drinking alcohol, or the like.  Instead, let’s see this as a wake-up call and turn to a passion or a hobby, and ask ourselves what we can do right now to align ourselves closer to our values.

Yes, we have to work, eat, and sleep, but that doesn’t mean we have to just go through the motions.

Time away and outside is incredibly healing.

Even a short walk, whether around a city block or through a park, is one of the best ways to lift our mood.

Breathe the fresh air, enjoy the surroundings, gaze up at the sky.  It’s a great way to push ‘pause’ on life, reconnect with what’s really important to us, and remember how expansive the world is.

Whether we head out alone or with a companion, let’s try to spend more time outside, if only for a short time.
