Purple Mountains

Shot while stopped along Eleven Mile Reservoir recently!

Definitely hoping to get a hatchback soon for some good old car-camping!

What’s your favorite way to travel and enjoy nature?

Journey of Heroes | Mountain Pass

Life is often far from fantasy, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take every opportunity to be our own hero.

We must take the initiative to live the life we want to live, to create a present and future that makes us feel alive.

Whether that means long road trips and photographing sunsets, or building a family with those you love, or anything and everything in between…it’s our responsibility to make it happen.

Let’s listen to our souls and head in the direction our hearts are trying to take us.  Let’s be our own heroes.

Mystical Flowers

Before and after editing of a flower photograph

Exploring more with magical and fantasy photography has become a growing love.

It’s brought on a bit of a shift in my photography, and especially how images are edited.

Although belief and admiration for more ‘natural’ photographs is still dear, it’s been replaced by a dream to bring more surreal, otherworldly, and fantastical visions to feed our imaginations and bring fantasy to life.

Here’s to exploring new paths and fancies, and enjoying the magic in nature, life, and our imaginations~

Touch of Nature

Décor doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive.  You can find a lot of beauty and inspiration in a simple thrifted bowl filled with dried flowers.

Let’s go out and scavenge some fresh or fallen flowers, sprinkle them over a table, fill a bowl or vase, press and frame, or draw from nature’s beauty another way!

New Year | New Routine

Backlit Petals

I hope everyone is not only well, but excited about the new year!  We have a lot to look forward to, and hopefully we have some goals to work towards, as well!

Whether we’re putting things in motion to start a new job or new career, picking up a new interest, or dedicating more time to our passions, let’s give it all we’ve got; keep a smile on our faces, and gratitude in our hearts~

I want to thank you guys again for helping make this past year extra special!  In the coming year, I hope to improve my photography, experiment and practice new things, and continue to share with you all!

As we move forward into the new year, Roman Leaf will be updating three days a week, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  The schedule may continue to change and evolve as time goes on and needs/goals change, but this new routine feels like a good fit.  With fewer updates, I hope to bring you all better photos, though of course I’m still up for sharing my mistakes!

These days will be the primary posts, so any posts with photography centered around DIY/handmade, minimalism, food, decor, etc. will be extra posts that week.  When things start to fall into place, non-post days will probably be when other sites like DeviantArt and Tumblr are updated.  Probably..

Thank you guys again.  I wish you all the best, and look forward to exploring the new year with you!

Manitou Blue

Urban photography of a cozy home in Manitou Springs

Manitou Springs in Colorado is bursting at the seams with gorgeous homes and businesses alike.  Another historic town, it’s lined with cozy-looking old homes.

This particular building, possibly several homes, sports a beautifully chipped layer of light blue paint.  The sheer and tablecloth curtains are pulled back just enough to show off some thriving plants and some comfortable seating.

Saturation was played with in editing, so this equally lovely window sports the same light blue as the rest of the home, though tiled and featuring a spattering of rust.

Whether we’re part of a throng of tourists, or exploring on our own during the colder months, let’s get out as much as possible and take in the gorgeous sights.

Breathe | Purple Petals

In a few days we’ll be headed off to our new adventure, so starting today, posts will be once a week on Thursdays until we get set up at our new home.  The regular posting schedule will return hopefully by August.  I can’t wait to show you the different landscape of our new home!

With things flying by, it’s easy to feel like we have no control.  And even with things changing, we can feel tightly trapped.

Let’s breathe, remember that everything will work out, and that obstacles are just steps in the journey.
