Spirituality

When life gets tough, we start to look at the way we live a little more closely.  The things that really bother us become clearer and much, much louder.

Healthier eating, more exercise, more time in nature, taking up meditation, or seeking comfort and improvement in spirituality or religion  are things we may turn to.

Though we may also turn to cheesecake.

It’s slowly becoming more clear how off-track I’ve gotten in life.  Simplicity and minimalism has disappeared under piles of junk, there have never been more receipts in the trash, junk food is the new normal, and negative thoughts have been hanging heavy in the mind.

Less than ideal, but we can always move forward.

Whatever pains we’re working through and however far we’ve fallen off our ideal path, let’s work to start moving forward again.

Let’s find the inspiration we need, treat ourselves well and with kindness, and start finding our way back on track.

Touch of Nature

Décor doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive.  You can find a lot of beauty and inspiration in a simple thrifted bowl filled with dried flowers.

Let’s go out and scavenge some fresh or fallen flowers, sprinkle them over a table, fill a bowl or vase, press and frame, or draw from nature’s beauty another way!

Warm Winters

Dried Purple Flowers

Warm Winters

The numerous pots around the house with only dirt and withered leaves will tell you that I’m not that great with plants.  Dried flowers are fragile, of course, but still beautiful.  And they can’t die twice.

You can find dried flowers at craft stores, and sometimes at thrift shops, but of course the most fun way to get a collection is to go out and pick your own.  You can even press them in a book and frame when dry.

Whether we’re able to care for living plants, or can only handle the dried variety, let’s bring the beauty of nature indoors to keep us a little warmer this winter!

Simple Beauty

Simple Beauty

There is beauty everywhere, especially in the simple things.

Our lives can easily be made a little brighter with things we already have or that can be found at a thrift shop.

Dried tea leaves can fill glasses, extra yarn can be braided, and extra packaging can be repurposed.

Simple beauty is everywhere, we just have to look for it.

Golden Teacup

Golden Teacup

I love looking through thrift shops and clearance sections for props that beg to be photographed.  Even so, I haven’t done much photography with them.

Minimalism is important to me, so I try not to collect too many  items only for photography.  Thrifted items, like this painted teacup and leaf brooch, are exceptions and not-so-guilty pleasures.

The moon is always a great reminder of how big the world is, and how small our problems are.
