Simple Beauty

Simple Beauty

There is beauty everywhere, especially in the simple things.

Our lives can easily be made a little brighter with things we already have or that can be found at a thrift shop.

Dried tea leaves can fill glasses, extra yarn can be braided, and extra packaging can be repurposed.

Simple beauty is everywhere, we just have to look for it.

Although most of my photographs are of nature, still life photography has been a growing interest of mine.

Trips to thrift stores and clearance isles have resulted in various props and other items waiting to be photographed.  Despite being being a minimalist with a goal to fit all belongings into a few suitcases, this small collection of teacups, papers, beads, glitters, jewelry, and random beauties has stuck around.

With some luck, they’ll start to get photographed soon.

Depression has a way of sneaking up on you, especially when you ignore it.  Unfortunately, it’s not something that will go away by pretending you don’t notice.

I’ve been feeling quite blue lately.  The spiral started a few months back, and having been through depression years ago, I wasn’t hoping to struggle with it again.

Avoidance never seems to work out.  Let’s not be afraid to face our emotions and what they may mean, and let’s remember to ask for help when we need it.

This is when friends, family, and doctors come in.

Let’s get the help we need from others and ourselves, move forward, and always remember the positive when we’re feeling blue.

I love looking through thrift shops and clearance sections for props that beg to be photographed.  Even so, I haven’t done much photography with them.

Minimalism is important to me, so I try not to collect too many  items only for photography.  Thrifted items, like this painted teacup and leaf brooch, are exceptions and not-so-guilty pleasures.
