Iron Heart

The ironwork heart in this red framed window grate is terribly charming, but I’m a sucker for reds, creams, and textured walls!

This lovely building sits beside a tattoo shop and gallery, and across from the historic church in Old Colorado City.  Old Colorado City is full of really awesome buildings, basically!

Beautiful and charming details abound, so let’s open our eyes to the world around us!

Like the Sea

Like the Sea

These beautifully textured boulders always remind me of the bottom of the sea, and spark daydreams of what it was like when this place was covered by ocean.

A great reminder to visit some local parks to search for shark teeth!

Tree of Enlightenment

Although markedly different, this tree always makes me think of the bodhi tree that Buddha meditated beneath.

It’s an inspiration and reminder to get in touch with our spiritual side, and to not only seek, but enjoy silence and solitude.

Whether we meditate or not, let’s remember to make make cultivating calm and peace a priority in our lives.  Life is so much better when viewed from a place of mindfulness and gratitude~

Sandstone | Ute Valley Park

Nature photography of sandstone

If you’re ever in the Colorado Springs area, I highly recommend a visit to Ute Valley Park.    It’s a gorgeous park in it’s own right, and also has some lovely views of Pike’s Peak!  Trails take you through brush, wooded areas, and possibly the most popular, along the various sandstone formations.

There are trails for the usual hiking and running, though it’s very popular for biking as well, and there’s even an area where climbers are able to practice (not the cliff face, but a large formation on the west side).

Blodgett Peak nearby as well, so why not take a few days to explore them both?

Twisted Blue

Twisted Blue

Let’s always remember that periods of ‘death’ and remission are a part of the cycle.  Even when things appear to be stagnant and bare, there’s a lot going on that we can’t see.  We’re still moving forward.

Corkscrew Bark

Holidays are upon us, and hopefully we’re all able to get ourselves cozy to enjoy what we’re grateful for!  Let’s always remember the beauty of the little things in life, those things we often overlook.

Vintage Books II

Vintage II

These beautifully textured and warn antique books are from 1905 and 1907.  They warranted a shoot, and I thought it’d be fun to use them for some practice self-portraits.

Definitely need to practice during daylight hours, as studio lighting and flash just adds complications when the point is to practice something else…

Family and friends can be great for sourcing props, though if you have the time, thrifting and garage-saling will earn you gorgeous finds, as well!
