Golden Glow

Although sticking with ‘brand’ on instagram, I’m trying to get back and explore where I started, nature photography and frequent trips into the woods.

Let’s explore where we came from, get ourselves outside, and enjoy our beginnings and our present.

Road trips are food for the soul, so let’s get out when we can!

Moody Ridge | Sunset

When the clouds are rolling through the mountains during sunset, and the  hills and trees are silhouetted again a beautiful glow, there’s a deep sense of calm and rightness.

Let’s try to get closer to nature; to life at its most basic form.

Let’s connect back to the natural world and let ourselves heal.

Misty Mountain Cliffs

It’s incredible how gorgeous and mysterious mountains and trees are when surrounded by mist and clouds!

Photographing nature in it’s moodier moments brings such a thrill, like watching an intriguing fantasy movie.

Bringing more fantastic, moody, and magical elements into my photography has become a goal, and it’s been quite an interesting and exciting journey so far!

What’s your favorite mood to capture and create in your photos?

A natural feel?  Something light and uplifting?  Dark and broody?

Whatever currently pulls on our hearts, let’s continue to follow with enthusiasm!

We all have our comfort zones, and we should definitely work on pushing past them this year!

Studio lighting, self-portraits, and landscape photography have become well-known comfort zones.

And although I still want to improve and expand in these areas, photographing others in the great outdoors is a huge leap I’ve been dying to take!

We can tell what we need to work on by asking ourselves a simple question:

What do I want to do, but haven’t because I’m scared?

  • Write it down.
  • Come up with a short term plan to do this activity (or something comparable).
  • DO IT!

We all have things we dream of doing, and because we have so much invested in the dream, we may have a lot of fear attached to even trying.

What if I decide to take that trip to Iceland, but it turns out I can’t afford it?

What if I finally start my photography business but can’t make any money?

What if I try, but fail?

Fail anyway.

Success is the result of a lot of trial, error, and failure.  We can’t improve if we’re not willing to be a beginner.

We have to try.

So let’s get excited about our dreams and goals, big or small, and start working towards them.

Let’s push past our comfort zones, learn, grow, and create something amazing!

Clouds are a Photographer’s Best Friend

This moody sunset was photographed one evening as dark clouds shrouded the mountains.  The sun created a strong silhouette of this ridge that was burned in a forest fire, with the clouds adding contrast and gloom to the scene.

It’s always puzzling when photographers say they hate cloudy days.

Clouds soften the sunlight, like a soft box diffuses our flash, so gorgeous light can be photographed even during noon hours!

Not only that, but the most gorgeous sunsets often have plenty of clouds in the sky to cast different colors and add interesting shapes.  They can be photographed sharp, or slow to create a ‘blanket’ look across the sky!

They also can add tremendous mood to an otherwise rather ‘clean’ scene.

So next time we see a ‘nap day’ on the weather forecast, or see clouds rolling on the horizon, let’s get excited and get outside to see what those beauties in the sky have in store!

Let’s just remember to bring a jacket and an umbrella in case the clouds bring something extra!

Into the New Year!

Happy New Year!

One thing we can always count on in life is change, so let’s look back at all we’ve seen evolve over the past year in the world, in our lives, and in ourselves, and welcome all that’s in store for the new year!

Let’s spend more time in nature, with friends, laughing, learning, growing, exploring, and making the best adventure out of life that we can!

To our continued journey of bettering ourselves, and finding the beauty in life and our imaginations~!
